About the 5 Lands Art Studios
The 5 Lands Art Studios is a project of the 5 Lands Artists Collective Inc. which is a not for profit group of over 30 visual, performing and literary artists located on the Central Coast of NSW. Among its projects which include the celebrations, performances at Avoca Beach for the annual 5 Lands Walk. The 5 Lands Artist Collective initiated the widely acclaimed 5 Lands Art Studios in 2012, so that Art Lovers can journey on a fascinating art trail to meet artists at work and see their studios first hand.
The 5 Lands Art Studios Mission
Like all other 5 Lands Artist Collective projects, The 5 Lands Art Studio art trail was established with the aim of nurturing and promoting the creative arts for arts for the benefits of both artists and the broader community. The 5 Lands Art Studios brings art the the community by providing a unique opportunity for art lovers and new comers alike to meet artists in their own space, talk to them about their own practice and experience the process of making visual art in a variety of forms.
Selection Criteria
To be eligible for membership artists must:
. be financial members of the 5 Land s Artist Collective
. Pay annual fees and levies of the 5LAS
. be practicing artists with a working studio that is assessed, after inspection, as safe, and fit for purpose by 2 members of the committee of the 5LAS.
. provide evidence of insurance by a reputable insurer for public liability in the sum of at least $10 million.
. be available for not less than 3 of the 5 scheduled open studio days each year, as published.
. meet the other membership responsibilities of the 5LAS group set out below
NB. Selection is at the discretion of the existing members of the 5LAS and the committee of the 5 Lands Artists Collective. Selection will take into consideration multiple factors including, but not limited to;
1. Demonstrated professionalism - having regard to website and or FaceBook page and CV (including current exhibitions, experience and study, other background as a practicing artist)
2. Maintaining an appropriate balance of art practices on the art studio trail.
3. Provision of a satisfactory personal statement which includes why applicant wants to join and what they will contribute to the group
4. Geographical proximity to 5 lands localities.
Expression of Interest (EOI)
Any artist wishing to be considered for inclusion on the 5LAS should email their EOI to Margaret Fortey or Janet Hoyer Cobb to 5landsartiststudios@gmail.com including their name, personal statement, studio address, mobile number website address and or Facebook art page, with representative images of their work.
Intake of new members is bi-annual and EOI must be received not later than 30th June or 30th December to enable consideration, studio inspection, (for safety and access suitability), and printing of the brochures in time for the next Open Studio.
Artists will be notified of the outcome of their EOI following the next 5LAS meeting.
A certificate of currency for public liability insurance at least $10,000,000 to be presented upon acceptance of Open Studio membership.
Membership Responsibilities
a. Financial Responsibilities:
Artists are requires to first become a member of the 5 Lands Artist Collective Inc. and agree to meet the terms and conditions of the 5LAS group.
Membership of the 5 Lands Artist Collective annual fee is $2 joining fee and $10 annual fee due 1st November.
Membership of 5Lands Art Studio group is a one off $150 set up fee and an additional $50 annual fee to cover printing and publicity for the Open Studios and other exhibitions held, due on 1st November.
Payment of any additional levies from time to time as the 5LAS group decides.
b. Open Studios for art trail dates each year
Artists are required to open their studios on at least 3 days of the 5 days scheduled each year.
. The 1st full weekend in March from 11am to 5pm
. The Sunday on the 5 Lands Walk weekend from 11am to 3pm in June
. The 1st full weekend in November 11am to 3pm.
Dates are published and updated on our website www.5landsartstudios.com
Artists are required to erect an orange flag and signage each morning their studio is open and remove them at the end of the day (flags to be purchased by the artist (approx $20)and signs will be provided to you upon joining the group)
c. Participation in activities of the group.
Without your participation, the group would not be able to function and there would be no community awareness of or attendance at our events.
Publicity and promotion
Artists are expected to participate in publicity and promotion in order to raise awareness of the 5LAS and other activities of the 5 Lands Artists Collective including the 5 Lands Walk and its annual exhibitions, Connections and Ephemera. This will include distributing flyers, circulating invitations by email and social media and may involve radio or newspaper interviews from time to time.
Promptly provide information for Brochure and website
Artists must provide their artwork image for inclusion in the 5LAS brochure asap. Otherwise the previous image will be used.
Artists must notify Janet Hoyer Cob (webmaster) of any changes for the website such as change of address.
Artists must notify Janet Hoyer Cobb if they are NOT opening any of the days one month prior to their Open Studio weekend.
It is not our responsibility to chase members for approval of their images and information - each member is responsible for their own information and must check the details are correct or not, on the brochure and website, promptly confirming this to Janet Hoyer Cobb info@5landsarttrail.com
Attendance at meetings
Artists are expected to attend meetings as follow:
. 5 Lands Artists Collective general meetings
These include The AGM (usually held in October each year) and at least one other meeting a year held before the 5 Lands Walk (usually in April)
. 5 lands Art Studio meeting
These are held at least once prior to each art trail weekend, usually in January and April (coinciding with the AGM referred to above) and September each year.
Meeting dates will be confirmed at least one month prior to scheduled date and an agenda will be emailed out 7 days prior to the meeting.
Action sheets will be emailed out following each meeting, who is responsible for which action. If you are unable to fulfil an agreed action it is your responsibility to find another artist member to substitute for you.
